Borisov becomes Sofia mayor

The former head of Sofia's anti-mafia taskforce, Boyko Borisov, was yesterday officially sworn in as the new mayor of Sofia.

Borisov recorded almost 70% of the votes in last Saturday's election, achieving a landslide victory in every district of the city. Voter turnout was disappointing and hit a record low of just 30%. At his official inauguration ceremony Borisov stated "I will work for the welfare of all Sofia citizens, regardless of the party they support, I want them all to welcome me with trust."
